I am a blogger?

My wife just told me she read my first blog. She liked it, but apparently I misspelled a word or forgot a word or something. If anyone out there sees it let me know.

I have to be upfront. I think blogs are lame. People spend way to much time watching the lives of other people. Go live your own life! That is exactly why I am doing this. I hope me writing about pursuing my passion helps encourage someone else chase their dream. No matter how this turns out I will keep posting. Who knows...this could be my story about how I went bankrupt. :-)

Sweet Weepeats! I still feel lame saying that too, but I like the name. I think it will work in our target market well.

How did this all begin?

For long story start here or skip ahead to short story...

My best friend Robbie and I began talking about business in high school. We tried going after quick money in pyramid schemes (almost lost all of our savings) and we even tried legitimate business. For example a home improvement venture. Just a note...hard work and a lot of zeal do not always equal a good finished product. [Mr. Myers if you are reading this. If and when Robbie and I make a little money, we are going to pay someone else to redo your foyer. I still feel bad about how it turned out.]

That was when we were 17 or 18. I am 29 now and we have talked about business all of these years. We decided we had to either do something or quit talking about business once and for all. All of our friends were tired of listening to our ideas. I was tired of being all talk. I felt like a poser.

So, we got serious and decided to pick something. We went through a couple of ideas seriously. We tried writing business plans but it got boring and we fizzled out. We took our ideas to more experienced businessmen but that didn't work either. Finally we had a a break. By break I mean accident.

Short Story

Robbie's wife found a resale business for sale. They were only asking $10,000. If there is any inventory in the store that is a no brainer. A business for $10k is cheap! However, when he investigated it turned out to be $110,000.

He called me sometime during all of this and we started talking about the potential for a resale business. People want to save money regardless of good economy or bad economy. Not to mention that we live in a country that buys children way too much. It was a strange business for two guys, but the business model was solid. We discussed buying the business for $110k but didn't have the money, and we thought it might be fun to figure it out on our own (we didn't know what we were getting into).

So here we are. We are trying to figure it out.

Once again I need to get to bed. I have a business and I still have to work my 9-5 to pay the bills. These first few posts might not be incredibly interesting. I probably won't go through all of the details during the last 6 months, but I still need to get caught up to the present.
